Fold the Paper

Start with the square sheet of paper and fold it carefully from one corner to the opposite corner to form a triangle. Make sure the edges line up neatly before pressing the fold. A clean first fold will help keep the final snowflake balanced and symmetrical.
Continue folding the triangle into a smaller, compact triangular or wedge-shaped piece. Press each fold firmly with your fingers so the creases become sharp and easy to follow. Take your time during this stage because uneven folds can make the snowflake pattern irregular.

Once the paper has been folded into a small wedge, hold it securely and check that the folded edges are aligned. The compact shape is now ready for carefully cutting decorative shapes along its edges. When opened, the repeated cuts will create a beautiful symmetrical snowflake pattern.
