DIY- Recycled Gift Box Decoration

Reuse an old cardboard box

An old cardboard box can be found easily at home, grocery stores, supermarkets, stationery shops, or nearby markets. Look for boxes that were used to pack shoes, household items, electronics, food, or online deliveries. Choose a box that is clean, dry, and still strong enough to hold its shape. The box does not need to be very old. A box that has been stored and unused for a few months is usually suitable for a DIY project. Even a box that is one or two years old can be reused if the cardboard has not become soft, damp, moldy, or badly damaged. Avoid boxes with a strong smell, water damage, or heavy stains.

Before reusing the box, remove old tape, labels, and loose pieces. Flatten it carefully and check the cardboard for weak or crushed areas. A sturdy old box is ideal because it can be cut, folded, painted, and decorated to create a useful recycled craft while reducing household waste.
