DIY Finnish Wooden Candle Holder

Step 2: Decide the Size

A simple candle holder could be approximately:

  • Length: 10–20 cm
  • Width: 7–10 cm
  • Height: 4–7 cm

The size can be changed depending on the candle and the desired design.

Step 3: Cut the Wood

If necessary, cut the timber to the required dimensions.

Make sure the bottom surface is flat so the finished candle holder will remain stable.

Step 4: Mark the Candle Position

Use a ruler to find the center of the top surface.

Mark the exact location where the candle will sit.

For a longer holder, you can create two or three candle positions, provided there is sufficient spacing and the design remains stable.

Step 5: Drill the Candle Hole

Secure the wood firmly using a clamp.

Drill a hole appropriate for the candle or metal insert.

The hole should hold the candle securely without making the wooden block too thin around the opening.

Do not drill completely through the wood.

Step 6: Smooth the Opening

Sand around the drilled hole.

Remove loose wood fibers and sharp edges.

The candle should fit securely without damaging the wood.

Step 7: Add a Metal Insert

For improved fire safety, consider installing a suitable metal candle cup or insert inside the wooden opening.

The insert should fit securely and should not move when the candle is placed inside.
