From Savonlinna, the journey to Punkaharju is around 30–35 minutes by car, while driving provides the flexibility to explore the scenic ridge road and surrounding attractions.
For visitors arriving by car, Punkaharju can be incorporated into a road trip through the Finnish Lakeland, with Savonlinna being a convenient starting point. From the Retretti area, visitors can walk or cycle into the Nature Reserve, and bicycles and e-bikes are available locally for exploring the ridge. The route is particularly attractive because the journey itself passes through the famous lake-and-pine-forest landscape of Punkaharju.
